Martin Luther King's "Address to the Churches". Recorded in St. Louis in October, 1964 at a meeting of the Episcopal Society for Cultural and Racial Unity. It was pressed to vinyl, and 1200 copies were distributed in South Africa, where it was immediately banned. This recording is from one of those vinyls. "Address to the Churches" is something of an oddity. It is materially similar to "Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution", which he delivered in 1968. Many...

We go back 50 years for Mr. Jones in all his whacked out glory remixed here all over again from radio shows and records made in the 40s through the 50s. He had a sampling mentality in 1940, combining sound effects with music, along with vulgar noises, one liners, instrumental jokes, and scripted stand-up surrealism. His band of musical pranksters were also very good musicians and included some memorable character actors as well. Everybody's knowledge of Spike and the City Slickers seems to be...

If you think original series for summer are a "new" idea, you are mistaken. This series ran from April to August 1957. An interesting mix of normal music, novelty music, and a truly bizarre finale. Complete with the original, fun commercials for L&M cigarettes and Oasis cigarettes....no registration with the US copyright office as far as I can tell.

Comedy and music. Harpo Marx is the guest performer. I do wonder what spuzz and the other Prelinger section people would think of this....it is as far removed from a "Coronet" film as one can get. No, I cannot fix the annoying digital compression....I wish I could but I can't.

The dates on these files, show numbers, as well as some performer's names, came from the Jubilee! transcription pages by Carl Hallstrom & Bo Scherman: http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm The Radio Gold Index http://www.radiogoldindex.com DB was helpful too. The Blues Notions have been together playing the Kansas City regional scene since 1987. With the release of their first CD entitled "This Is It!", they are poised to expand onto the national stage. Carrying on the great tradition of Kansas City jump blues and swing as well as the traditional Chicago urban blues sound, you'll find The Notions are one great blues band. The group consists of five veteran musicians, with over 140 years of musical experience between them: Tom...
